Overview

SuperTrace® collects and logs diagnostic messages for each process thread active when running an OpenSpan Windows Container. Diagnostic messages are logged to a series of files with the extension .OpenSpanLOG. When Lotus Expeditor is shut down, those files are consolidated into the file STDiagnosticLog.xml.

Setting Up the SuperTrace® Publisher for the Log Viewer

To  use SuperTrace, you must set the mode for SuperTrace Publisher to On in the Diagnostics Configuration window. Additional SuperTrace configuration settings are in the OpenSpan.ini file. To view SuperTrace messages stored in the STDiagnosticLog.xml file, use the Log Viewer application, which was installed automatically when you installed the OpenSpan Windows Container.

NOTE: SuperTrace is controlled by the openspan.ini file, which is located in the installation folder. You must have write permission for the installation folder to change.

1. Open the composite application that you want to log diagnostic messages.

NOTE: The Diagnostics Configuration window can be accessed from either the runtime or the CAE.  To collect SuperTrace logs from an agent machine (where CAE isn’t available), right-click in the upper or left margin to access the context menu.

2. In the Diagnostics Configuration window, set the SuperTracePublisher to On. Open the Diagnostics Configuration window by right-clicking in the Composite Application Editor and selecting Diagnostics Configuration from the context menu.

3. Save and close the composite application, and then restart Lotus Expeditor.

4. As you use the composite application, SuperTrace logs and saves messages to a series of OpenSpan log files (that is, files with the extension OpenSpanLOG). When you exit Lotus Expeditor, SuperTrace consolidates the multiple files into a single file (STDiagnosticLog.xml). This consolidation is evidenced by a SuperTrace progress indicator displaying in the middle of your screen as Lotus Expeditor shuts down.

5. Reopen Lotus Expeditor and the composite application. Open the Log Viewer application by selecting Open SuperTrace LogViewer from the context menu.

6. In the Log Viewer, select File | Open XML File. The STDiagnosticLog.xml file is present in the SuperTraceLogs folder.
